Canadian Life and Health Insurance Association (CLHIA)
Established in 1894, CLHIA is a voluntary non-profit association with member companies accounting for 99 per cent of Canada’s life and health insurance business. The Association’s overall mission is to serve its members in areas of common interest, need or concern.
The Canadian life and health insurance industry:
- Protects about 26 million Canadians.
- Makes almost $58 billion a year in benefit payments to Canadians.
- Manages more than half of Canada’s pension plans.
- Invests more than $430 billion in Canada’s economy.
- Provides employment directly to more than 125,000 Canadians.
Through a wide range of products and services, the life and health insurance industry helps Canadians to protect themselves and their families against the financial risks of premature death, illness and retirement. These products include individual and group life insurance, individual and group annuities (including RRSPs, RRIFs and pensions) and supplementary health insurance.
