Established in 1975 and federally incorporated in 1978, the Association of Canadian Archivists is a national not-for-profit organization representing over 600 English-speaking archivists in Canada. With headquarters in Ottawa, the ACA’s mandate is to provide the archival profession leadership and to facilitate an understanding and appreciation of Canada’s archival heritage.

Our Logo

The ACA launched its current logo in September 2002. Our hope is that you will interpret it as we do: a path of knowledge leading to an examination of Canadian identity and culture (the maple leaf under the magnifying glass concept) and also a subtle question mark forming the frame of the magnifying glass which portrays a quest for knowledge and the ability to find the answers.

Association of Canadian Archivists Foundation

The Association of Canadian Archivists Foundation or ACA Foundation was created by ACA in 2006 to provide a fund-raising and fund granting charitable organization, with the specific aim of supporting the educational and research needs of the Canadian archival profession. The Foundation is federally incorporated and recognized as a charitable, public foundation by Canada Revenue Agency. The Foundation, unlike ACA, is able to provide tax creditable donation receipts to donors, while providing financial support to scholarship and research recipients though accredited post-secondary institutions.

According to its by-laws, the Foundation is guided by a Board of Directors of 3 individuals. Two of these will are ACA Board members while the third will be a non-Board member. This third Foundation Board member is to be drawn from senior archival professionals, either working or retired, or possibly from other senior technical professionals such as lawyers, fund-raisers etc. The ACA Nominations Committee has been asked to suggest the names of possible candidates for the Foundation Board position. The names of these candidates will be presented to the ACA Board for consideration and approval. The job description for the independent director is included below under Related Files.
